FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK:

“Jesus replied:  ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it:  Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Mark 12:31 NIV)

It has been over 20 years ago that I began using the style of evangelism called Servant Evangelism.  Simply stated, its style is sprinkling love on all forms of ministry, but especially on outreach efforts to show how free God’s love is.  And love has always been an emphasized theme for our carnivals, and our AWANA ministry, and so it was no surprise to many that when we began our Grand Prix Races three years ago that the Race would be held as close to Valentine’s Day as possible.  Why?  To show the Clubbers and their families and friends Christ’s love in all that we do that leads up to the Grand Prix Race and on Race Day.

Leading up to our passage, a Pharisee that was an interpreter and teacher of the Law of Moses asked Jesus, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”  And Jesus’ reply as stated above followed.  You see, when we love God with a heartfelt devoted love, we long for His friendship, love Him with our obedience, and seek His honor and glory in all that we do.

And so it is no surprise that as we continue our After-School ministry at Eugene Fields that sprinkling love on all that we do is the style of ministry that we use, love for God, love for each other, love for the children and their families, and the list goes on and on.  When the day is over, the one thing people will remember above all else is LOVE.  1 Corinthians 13:13 (b) states the greatest spiritual gift is love.  You see, the greatest in God’s kingdom will be those who demonstrate love for God and His people in all they say and do.

I have recently bumped into a few grandparents that share that their grandchildren are in our Good News Club.  I am told they have so much fun and love coming on Wednesdays!  Let us together let our little light of love shine brightly for Jesus!
